Carnival Revises Eight Cruise Itineraries to Avoid Hurricane Rina

Fast-developing Hurricane Rina, which shifted from a sleepy Tropical Depression into a stronger Category 1 hurricane in just a few hours, is playing havoc with Caribbean cruise itineraries.

Carnival Cruise Lines revised eight cruise ship itineraries to sail safely around the strengthening storm. John Heald, a Carnival cruise director and well-known blogger, said on his blog that a couple planning to get married in Grand Cayman had their destination wedding cancelled, but the line was working to set up replacement arrangements for them on a beach in Ochos Rios, Jamaica.

Here's a snapshot of the changes reported by the line thus far:

Carnival Freedom’s eight-day cruise that departed Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 22 will spend Oct. 26 at Montego Bay, Jamaica, rather than at Limon, Costa Rica; Oct. 27 at sea rather than at Colon, Panama; and Oct. 28 at Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos, rather than at sea. The rest of the itinerary remains the same.

The five-day Carnival Inspiration cruise that departed Tampa on Oct. 22, will spend today in Progreso, Mexico rather than in Cozumel. The remainder of the itinerary is unchanged.

Carnival Destiny’s five-day cruise from Miami, departing Oct. 22, will spend today at sea, rather than in Grand Cayman, and spend Oct. 26 in Nassau, The Bahamas, rather than a day at sea, before disembarking guests as scheduled in Miami on Oct. 27.

For those clients on the seven-day Carnival Liberty cruise that departed on Oct. 22 from Miami, the ship will spend Oct. 26 in Ochos Rios, Jamaica, rather than at Grand Cayman, and Oct. 27 in Grand Turk rather than at Ochos Rios, with the rest of the itinerary unchanged.

The seven-day Carnival Legend cruise from Tampa will flip port calls at Cozumel and Belize City, spending today in Belize and tomorrow in Cozumel. On Oct. 27, the ship will call at Progreso, rather than at Roatan, Honduras. On Oct. 28, it will spend a day at sea, rather than making a planned port call at Grand Cayman. The rest of the itinerary unchanged.

The seven-day Carnival Valor cruise that departed Miami on Oct. 23 will spend Oct. 26 at sea, rather than at Belize and Oct. 27 at Grand Cayman rather than at sea. No other changes are planned at this time.

Carnival Triumph’s five-day cruise from Galveston, departing Oct. 24, will spend swap port call days for Progreso and Cozumel, so now calling at Cozumel on Oct. 26 and Progreso the following day.

Departing from Miami on Oct 24, Carnival Imagination’s four-day cruise will now spend Oct. 26 at sea, rather than calling at Cozumel, and  and call on Oct. 27 at Nassau, rather than spending that day at sea.
