Carnival Shifts Sailings to Avoid 2 Hurricanes, Tropical Storm

Carnival Cruise Line has announced a series of weekend itinerary changes due to the path of Hurricanes Jerry and Lorena, as well as Tropical Storm Mario, a spokesperson for the cruise line tells Travel Agent

According to the cruise line’s statement, Carnival is monitoring the path of the storms for all of the ships that operate in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda, as well as the Mexican Riviera

Due to the path of Hurricane Jerry, Carnival has said that it will modify the September 21 sailing of Carnival Breeze and the September 22 sailing of Carnival Sunshine. Instead of a three-day stay in Bermuda, the Carnival Breeze will instead call at San Juan, Amber Cove and Grand Turk. Instead of its two-day stay in Bermuda, the Carnival Sunshine will call at Princess Cays and overnight in Nassau

Due to the paths of Hurricane Mario and Hurricane Lorena, the September 21 sailing of Carnival Splendor will sail in reverse order in order to stay a safe distance from the storms.

The cruise line says that it is also monitoring the situation for the September 21 sailings of Carnival Elation and Carnival Horizon, but that it does not expect any impact to their itineraries at this time.

According to the latest set of forecasts from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Jerry is set to move north of the northern Leeward Islands late Friday, passing well north or Puerto Rico on Saturday and well east-northeast of the southeastern Bahamas on Sunday before turning north on Monday. A tropical storm watch is in effect for St. Maarten, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy

Tropical Storm Mario is expected to weaken steadily over the weekend, potentially moving near or west of the southern Baja California peninsula on Sunday. No watches or warnings are in effect due to this storm.

Finally, Hurricane Lorena is expected to move along the spine of the Baja California peninsula over the next couple of days, weakening over the next few days from its current maximum sustained winds of 85 mph if it moves inland. A hurricane warning is in effect for the Baja California peninsula from La Paz to Puerto Cortes
