Celebrity Cruises Passengers Robbed at Gunpoint in St. Lucia

st luciaCelebrity Cruises said 55 passengers and two crew members from Celebrity Eclipse were robbed at gunpoint while touring in St. Lucia last Friday. No one was hurt, but apparently the robbers took money and jewelry from cruisers.

Local police are investigating. The incident happened while guests were visiting Soufriere's Botanical Gardens, a major tourism attraction.

The passengers who were robbed were touring via either the Celebrity-sponsored "Breathtaking Soufriere and Warm Mineral Baths" or the "Land and Sea to the Pitons" shore excursions when they were robbed. Two separate tour groups were traveling on one motorcoach.

Celebrity told CruiseCritic.com (www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=5312) that its Guest Care Team had contacted the guests who were robbed to offer assistance, if needed.

The line said it was thankful no one was injured and continues to monitor the safety situation in St. Lucia. Celebrity Eclipse, a Solstice-class ship, is in the midst of a two-week Caribbean itinerary.
