Cunard's Queen Mary 2 to Get a Big Refurbishment

dog onboard queen mary 2As Cunard celebrates its 175th anniversary with the New York arrival of its flagship, Queen Mary 2, the line has announced the vessel will undergo an extensive 25 day dry dock refurbishment at the Blohm+Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, from May 27 to June 21, 2016.

The refurbishment will refresh guest interior spaces and introduce a number of new amenities, including:

- 15 new single staterooms aimed at both guests traveling alone and singles traveling as part of a multigenerational group

- 30 additional Britannia Club Balcony Staterooms. Guests travelling in these staterooms will be able to dine at a time of their own choosing in the dedicated Britannia Club restaurant, which will be expanded.

- 10 more kennels for four-legged travelers, adding to the ship's 12 existing kennels for dogs and cats, which frequently sell out.

Both a lamp post and a fire hydrant will be installed on the area of deck reserved for dog walking as part of the kennels development. This was previously a feature of the kennels on Cunard’s former flagship, QE2, and was first introduced on board Queen Mary at the suggestion of The Duke of Windsor.

Further details on the refresh will be announced over the coming months.
