Here’s the Story of That Video of Celebrity Equinox Passing Near a Florida House

Have you seen the video making the rounds online of Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Equinox coming close to a Florida couple’s home? Here’s what happened.

The cruise ship came unusually close to a series of homes on the water near Port Everglades March 3. According to a statement from the cruise line, the ship remained in its assign channel at all times under the guidance of local port pilots.

“The ship operated safely and did not put guests or crew at risk, and multiple monitors confirm the ship never touched bottom,” Celebrity Cruises said in a statement provided to Travel Agent. “The U.S. Coast Guard reviewed the ship’s activity and data and determined no further action was needed.”

A video of the event recorded by local couple Bill and Yasmine Todhunter had been making the rounds on social media wince the couple posted it. In the video the cruise ship can be seen coming close to the couple’s back patio, which is directly on the water near Port Everglades in Florida.

Celebrity Equinox is currently homeporting in Port Everglades near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offering a series of 10- and 11-night Caribbean itineraries. The ship recently underwent a drydock that added a number of new amenities, including the Gastrobar, which serves craft beers and comfort food, and the poolside Slush bar, which serves fresh, frozen cocktails. In total the ship has 10 dining venues, as well as a Lawn Club with real grass.
