Throughout the past year Holland America Line has been hosting the “Dancing With the Stars: At Sea” competition.
On December 6, 2014, Brenton Mitchell was named the champion dancer and took home the Champion and Mirrorball trophy. He beat 14 other competitors; each representing a different ship in the Holland America fleet. Brenton's dance partner was Whitney Szabo, and he was representing the Neiuw Amsterdam. Dancers became representatives of a given ship by winning a pervious dance competition on that ship.
“We’ve been building up to the Champions Cruise all year and it was an exciting and challenging week for all 15 guest competitors, who each deserve to be congratulated,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line.
The judging panel included professional dancers, Kym Johnson, Artem Chigvintsev and Sharna Burgess and actress Sabrina Bryan. Brenton, an amateur dancer, impressed the judges with his waltz and tango.
Kym Johnson, Artem Chigvintsev and Sharna Burgess from ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” put on a special performance aboard the ms Westerdam. Guests also were treated to a fashion show, a chance to meet the celebrity dancers and were able to participate in a question and answer session with the judges.
The championship cruise sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. There will be an additional “Dancing with the Stars” competition held throughout 2015 and 2016. The next winner will be announced in January 2016.
