Holland America Line will begin sailing from New York to Bermuda again, beginning in late August 2010. The news was announced to travel agents and select media sailing aboard the cruise line’s new ship, the MS Eurodam, this past weekend.
The new itinerary will include multi-day stops at both Hamilton and St. George’s, Bermuda’s cultural and shopping hubs.
The news drew applause from travel agents in the group, who were told they were the very first to hear the news of the new program and that as guests on the Eurodam they would have the chance to make early bookings on the new Bermuda program, which will use the MS Veendam as its vessel. The program will include 10 roundtrips to the island between August and October 2010; in 2011 it will include a full season of 20 or more sailings. Holland America first sailed to Bermuda more than 70 years ago.
Because the Veendam is a mid-size ship, it will be able to navigate the narrow entrances to the harbors in Hamilton and St. George’s. Additionally, passengers on the ship will be able to disembark in the center of each town. Larger ships must port at King’s Wharf, a outside of both towns.
