Continuing a tradition started over 80 years ago, the Dutch Royal Family will once again name a new Holland America Line ship.
In a ceremony held in Venice on July 4, 2010 Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima of the Netherlands will name the 2,106-passenger ms Nieuw Amsterdam.
Nieuw Amsterdam IV will be the 11th Holland America Line vessel to be launched by a member of the Dutch Royal Family. The ceremony will include gala festivities as well as the traditional breaking of the champagne bottle across the ship's bow.
ms Nieuw Amsterdam is the second in Holland America's Signature-class series. She will sail 12-day Med cruises before embarking on a transatlantic journey to the Caribbean, where she will sail seven-day itineraries from November 2010 to March 2011.
