This Week in Cruise: CLIA Registers 6,800 Travel Agents for National Cruise Vacation Week

Almost 6,800 travel agents and agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada have registered to host more than 5,360 live and online events for the Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) “World’s Largest Cruise Sale” during the second annual National Cruise Vacation Week (NCVW). CLIA says this tops last year’s total by almost 500 registrants. The 25 participating CLIA-member cruise lines continue to provide new special offers to help agents take full advantage of the cruise industry’s single-largest consumer promotion, CLIA says.

Oceania Cruises' launch of its 2013-2014 Winter Collection generated the highest booking volume in a single day in the company's history. The Winter Collection details 61 voyages and 18 new itineraries. In addition to Oceania’s two-for-one cruise fares and free air transportation offering on every sailing, the Winter 2013-2014 launch includes several value-added elements including two-for-one deposits and bonus savings of up to $5,000 per stateroom.

Zegrahm Expeditions appointed Edwin Blythe as the company’s president. Blythe, who took the helm on Oct. 1, 2012, previously served as finance director of Quark Expeditions. Jon Nicholson, former president of Zegrahm, will stay with the company and transition to director of product development. During his tenure as president, Nicholson managed Zegrahm’s acquisition process by TUI Travel, returned the company to a multi-ship strategy, and continuously developed unique and engaging itineraries.
