This Week in Cruise: New in Luxury Cruises

It’s been a busy week for luxury cruises.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises released new details on the entertainment offerings on the Seven Seas Splendor, which launches in February. The cruise line put out a preview of five theatrical performances and five entertainment lounges that will sail on the news vessel, including a disco-themed show, a number of new lounge spaces and a look at what to expect from the new ship’s casino.

In luxury expedition news, Scenic appointed Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren as the Godmother for its first Discovery Yacht, the Scenic Eclipse. Mirren will christen the new ship in a ceremony in New York City on September 10, after which it will sail a pair of itineraries spotlighting the Caribbean and Colombia and Panama

Finally, in onboard product news, this week Cunard announced a lineup of famous explorers who will embark on 10 Alaska sailings next year onboard the Queen Elizabeth. The sailings will include Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who has been named the “World’s Greatest Living Explorer” by the Guinness Book of World Records, as well as mountaineer Kenton Cool, who has summited Mount Everest 14 times and is the first person in history to climb three of the mountain’s peaks in a single climb.
