On the final night of Corroboree on Hamilton Island, the 17th annual Opal Awards were handed out to Premier Aussie specialist travel agents and industry partners, honoring creativity in selling and marketing Australian tourism. This year’s winners were:

Most Creative Marketing Campaign under $500: Matt Knowles - Sea Escape Travel
Most Creative Marketing Campaign over $500: Terry Pohl - Globetrotter Travel
Best Consumer Event: Rob Hill - Peak Travel Partners
Most Outstanding Website Development by an Aussie Specialist: Andrew Haffenden - Australian Natural Adventures
Most Supportive Industry Partner: Qantas Vacations
Most Supportive State/Territory Tourism Board: Tourism Queensland
Best New Australian Experience (First Time Corroboree Attendee): Tobruk Sheep Station

One award was new, and rather unexpected, it seemed. Jeff Adam, VP Sales and Marketing at AAT Kings, received the Industry Recognition Award, and looked genuinely surprised and moved when he accepted the trophy. His award was preceded by a selection of personal accolades by agents and suppliers, making the recognition that much more specific and meaningful.
