Acapulco's Big Push-Destination Takes Measures to Become Mexico's Premier Spot


The Acapulco Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced plans to put the destination in the front of the pack of Mexico destinations. Agents should continue to follow the news coming out of Acapulco, as the city will be producing an array of new selling points.

New hotel developments, property enhancements and unique amenities complement Acapulco's score of well-established and venerable hotel brands. For example, the Best Western Playa Suites has begun constructing a new building slated for completion in 2009 that will house 60 Deluxe Suites. The property is also undergoing updates including the addition of electronic safety deposit boxes in all guest rooms and suites, free wireless Internet throughout the property, a new lobby bar and front desk area as well updates to furniture in its Las Gaviotas and El Morro restaurants. The Ritz Acapulco Hotel completed refurbishment of the property's 240 guest rooms and suites in June. The rooms, dispersed between the two towers of the hotel, were refurbished with rich wooden furniture, fresh and glowing painted walls, new window treatments and colorful bed linens. Additionally, La Fiesta Restaurant underwent a face-lift – new flooring and furniture to create the feel of a large beach palapa where guests can dine and enjoy ocean views. The Fairmont Acapulco Princess and the Fairmont Pierre Marques in Acapulco were recently acquired by Goodman Hospitality Investments, a private real estate investment company. The properties will be undergoing enhancements with a total investment of $50 million. The extensive investment program will include a $30 million property renovation currently under way and including complete guest room renovation; the addition of a multifunctional conference center; expansion of the Willow Stream Spa; and refurbishments to restaurants and shops. The additional $20 million will be designated for the redevelopment of two golf courses and the creation of an exclusive golf and beach club slated for construction in 12-18 months. Hotel Mirador Acapulco has completed the renovation of Don Carlos Restaurant including updates to the furniture, menu and bar. The chefs redeveloped the menu to include only local culinary resources such as fresh fish, tropical fruit and other ingredients native to Guerrero. Las Brisas Acapulco has completed a total hotel renovation in July 2007, investing close to $20 million.
