Anguilla’s Extraordinary Eats Event Kicks Off

Anguilla’s inaugural culinary event, Extraordinary Eats!, kicked off on Sunday, April 14. The two-week event celebrates the culture, food and culinary arts of Anguilla. Some of the highlights include: 

On Monday, April 15, Pub Crawl takes guests coast to coast, to Anguilla’s beach and roadside bars, with drink specials and pub crawl bingo.

 

Festival del Mar, the annual celebration of 'all things from the sea,' will take place on Easter weekend, April 20 and 21. The event is held in the fishing village of Island Harbour and includes seafood meals, delicacies, and traditional treats – local lobsters, crayfish, conch, and your choice of fried, grilled or steamed fish served with rich sides of traditional rice and peas or johnny cakes. Also a part of Festival del Mar is local string bands and musicians, who take to the stage with live performances all day and into the night. Artists who performed previously include Bankie Banks, Omari Banks, Roxxy, Shea Shea, and Natalie, as well as, international recording artist Pat Ross and the American country music artist Rissi Palmer. Traditional games and beach activities, such as a deep sea fishing tournament, swimming races, a model boat race, sunfish races and the traditional B-Class boat races, are also included.

Taste of The Strip, hosted on The Strip in The Valley on Friday, April 26, spotlights Anguilla’s food trucks and local specialties such as pea soup, johnny cakes, BBQ ribs, steamed fish, oxtail stew and conch soup. A series of live music and cultural performances by local artists and bands are also held throughout the day and into the evening.    

Lastly, Chefs Extraordinaires on Saturday, April 27, hosted by Da Vida’s, will serve as the grand finale to Extraordinary Eats event and as a fundraiser for the Anguilla Culinary Team, a group of young chefs, to finance their participation in upcoming regional culinary competitions. The evening will showcase Anguillian cuisine with an international flair. Anguillian chef Kerth Gumbs, joined by fellow Anguillians Tarisa Reid and Mtima Daniels, will be in attendance.
