Another Texas City Eyes Cruising

Texas state representative Todd Hunter told local media in the Corpus Christi area that he plans to pre-file legislation next week to commission a study on cruising. The goal is to determine what incentives would work to entice cruise companies to dock in the Corpus Christi area, also called Texas' Coastal Bend region.

Hunter says that when San Antonio's population is grouped along with Corpus Christi's population, the region becomes the eighth largest city in the United States.

Depending on cruise line preferences, local officials say ships could dock at either Corpus Christi, Ingleside or Port Aransas. However, there's no word yet from any line about interest in the region.

Savannah, Ga., and Brownsville, Texas, are other southern cities that have expressed an interest in cruising in 2010.
