Here's a new destination for film buffs: From May 11 to May 15, The Big Island Film Festival celebrates new narrative films and filmmakers from Hawaii and around the world. Movies are offered day and night, and include Hawaiian music, hula, celebrity honorees, receptions and trainings.
Daytime and Festival evening films are located at the Fairmont Orchid-Hawaii, Thursday through Saturday. Family films are offered free at The Shops at Mauna Lani each evening Wednesday through Saturday. The Best of the Fest concert and Audience Choice Feature and Short film are the final event on Sunday evening beginning at 5 p.m. at the Fairmont Orchid. Nice touch: Some films will screen free for active military personnel.
