Britain Marketplace took place October 5 through 9 in both New York and Toronto, focusing solely on building relationships between North American buyers and British tourism suppliers. Equivalent to its Asian counterpart, Destination Britain, the event is garnering more interest year-on-year from other British suppliers eager to capitalize on this one-stop-shop opportunity and export platform provided by VB Americas.
Christopher Rodrigues kicks off the VIP opening event for Britain Marketplace 2009 at Madame Tussauds New York
Organized by VisitBritain, the event was supported by national strategic partners alongside their own regional collaborative partnerships including, Visit England & Welcome to Yorkshire; Visit Scotland & Edinburgh Festivals; Visit Wales & Welsh Rarebits; Merlin Entertainments, Dewynters Tourism & Mamma Mia as well as Fortnum & Mason.
In New York, 54 British suppliers undertook pre-scheduled appointments with 67 U.S. buyers from leading tour operators nationwide. The opening VIP reception was sponsored by, and held at, Madame Tussauds New York. The event was opened by Christopher Rodrigues, and brought British suppliers together with U.S. buyers and media for an informal evening of networking.
In Toronto, 44 British suppliers undertook pre-scheduled matched appointments
with 55 Canadian buyers and media.
Both events climaxed with an evening of entertainment courtesy of Visit Scotland & Edinburgh Festivals utilizing one of the Festival acts themselves— Scottish comedian Craig Hill.
Always seeking room for improvement as the event evolves year on year, the initial supplier & buyer feedback has been extremely positive and a full evaluation will be undertaken to establish partner satisfaction of this much sought after export platform. A focus group will meet in the coming months to establish enhancements to the program for 2010 and beyond.
