British Airways Employees Ready to Strike

The BBC is reporting that the union representing British Airways cabin crew has voted in favor of a strike over job cuts and changes to staff contracts.

The strikes are set to begin on December 22 and run until January 2, right over the holiday period. Last year, the airline carried 1.6 million people over the Christmas break.

According to the BBC, cabin crew voted “overwhelmingly in favour” of the strike action. The vote follows a long dispute between the unions and BA, which is intent on cutting costs in order to survive a collapse in passenger numbers. The strike will probably cause even more damage to BA’s already beleaguered finances, since they will be expected to refund the tickets for canceled flights.
