Daughter of Outrigger Founders Dies at Age 76

Outrigger Enterprises Group recently announced the death of family member Patricia “Pat” Kelley, who passed away on Sunday, November 17, in Honolulu with family members at her side. She was 76.

“Our Outrigger 'ohana has lost a beautiful member of our family with the peaceful passing of my youngest sister, Pat,” said Dr. Richard Kelley, chairman emeritus of Outrigger Enterprises Group, in a written release. “My baby sister grew to be a woman of steely courage and strength, common-sense smarts and independence. She had to be feisty and quick as the youngest of our family.”

As a child of Outrigger founders, Roy and Estelle Kelley, Pat Kelley grew up working in the family business and recalled for the book Kelleys of the Outrigger, "Working in the hotels was a family tradition. We've done everything. All of us have. Clean rooms, scrub toilets, work the front desk, hand out keys. I worked in the reservations office for a long time with Mama. Filing…lots of filing."

Pat Kelley was a woman of grit, talent and determination – attributes that contributed greatly to her success in the business world. Early in her career she was given the opportunity of working at the Trade Wind’s travel desk in the original Reef Hotel. That experience led her to build two very successful businesses of her own, Pat Kelley Tours and Pat Kelley International, which she eventually sold to the family organization.

Remembering his sister, Dr. Kelley said, "Pat will always hold an honored place in the Outrigger legacy as a contributing member of the tight-knit, hard-working family who together worked tirelessly to lay the Company's enduring foundation of focusing on employees, caring for guests and operating efficiently; a savvy professional who grew a successful business on her own; and a caring sister, loving mother, and faithful friend to many."

In addition to her brother, Richard, Pat Kelley is survived by her sister, Jean Rolles; daughters Michelle Norstrom and Estelle M. Kelley; son-in-law Jason Weber; and grandchildren Michael and Mackenzie Norstrom. She is also survived by her beloved pet dog, a Corgi named “King Tut.” She was predeceased by husband Gerald “Pete” Petrequin. Services are pending.
