Dusseldorf's Hafenfest Kicks Off August 28

Dusseldorf's modern Media Harbor will be the setting for this year's fifth annual Hafenfest (Harbor Fest), which will be held August 28 and 29.

Media Harbor is one of Dusseldorf's newest attractions, home to 400 media companies housed in buildings designed by Frank Gehry, David Chipperfield, Joe Coenen, Steven Holl and Claude Vasconi.

The event, a public outdoor music and water sports fest, invites visitors to watch or participate in a number of water events and sports, including row and sail boat racing, as well as speed boat tours. Seventeen international live bands will perform on two stages. WDR, a German TV and radio network, will let open its doors to visitors and offer tours and live tapings. The whole event is capped off with fireworks on the harbor.

The event is free and open August 28 from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. and August 29 from noon to 9 p.m.
