After a soft opening to the public in February, the mountainous new ride Expedition Everest at Walt Disney World had its grand opening Thursday night and Friday morning with Disney talent and worldwide press in attendance. In keeping with Disney's attention to detail, the ride is set in a Himalayan village with an extensive theme involving Nepali and Tibetan culture and the hunt for the legendary Yeti, which riders meet at the end of the 3.5-minute, mile-long twisting train trek through the mountain. It is a dark ride with 34 seats incorporating backward motion, multi-sensory stimuli and a state-of-the-art rotating track switch (which you can seen from the front of the train). The ride is perfect for younger kids without a lot of big shocks, but still a big-time rush.
