Nassau Paradise Island, Bahamas has announced its lineup of events for the upcoming fall season. Here’s what you need to know: 

Goombay Summer Festival – Every Friday in August beginning at 12:00 p.m.

This weekly end of the summer festival takes place at Arawak Cay in Nassau, showcasing Bahamian music, dancing, food, art and more. Guests can immerse themselves in the local Bahamian culture by sampling local delicacies, dancing to the beat of the Goombay drums and even take part in the colorful Junkanoo parade in the evening. The event is free and open to the public, and it takes place August 5, 12, 19 and 26 from noon to midnight. Potcakeman Triathlon 2016 – September 24, 2016

The Potcakeman Triathlon is a distance triathlon that takes place annually in Nassau. The distances involve  a 750m swim, 21K bike and a 5K run. Participants can compete in either the entire race or as part of a relay team, doing one or two legs each. The triathlon also includes a kid’s competition, with a 100M swim, a 5K bike and a 1K run. The race is sponsored by Baark, whose mission is to carry out spay/neuter and education projects to reduce the homeless animal population in the Bahamas. Bahamas National Trust Annual Wine and Art Festival – October 29, 2016; 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The Wine and Art Festival is an annual celebration that highlights new seasonal wines and works of Bahamian artists. Held at The Retreat, which is part of the Bahamian National Park, all proceeds from the event support the National Park System, which includes 25 protected areas and is managed by the Bahamas National Trust. Battle 4 Atlantis – November 23 – 25, 2016

Every Thanksgiving, Atlantis Paradise Island sets up The “Imperial Arena,” its half-million dollar stadium, for the college basketball showdown known as “Battle 4 Atlantis.” The temporary stadium boasts state-of-the-art regulation facilities at the epicenter of the world’s largest open-air marine habitat. The annual college basketball showdown will feature the following teams in the day one bracket:

Wichita State vs. LSU
Baylor vs. VCU
Michigan State vs. St. John’s
Old Dominion vs. Louisville

Guests, fans and families who book now for Thanksgiving can receive “Full Tournament Packages” that include entry to all 12 games for a starting price of $295.63 per ticket (not inclusive of the price of hotel rooms). Bahamas International Film Festival – December 5 – 11, 2016

The 13th annual Bahamas International Film Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the local Bahamian community and international visitors with a diverse presentation of films from around the world. In addition to special screenings the Film Festival holds Panels and Master Classes as well as cocktail parties and receptions. Tickets start at $4. Marathon Bahamas – January 14 – 15, 2017

A Boston Marathon Qualifier, the Marathon Bahamas is an oceanfront route that offers a scenic and flat terrain. Participants can choose to do a marathon, half-marathon or relay race, and there is a post-race party as well as entertainment throughout course. Tickets range from $57.50 to $90, depending on the length of the race, and the course is supported with water, Gatorade, GU Energy and medical assistance.
