Finnair Expands London Heathrow Service

finnairFinnair has added a fifth daily frequency between London Heathrow and Helsinki

Effective March 30, 2014, flight AY995 departs Helsinki at 4:25 P.M. for arrival in London three hours later at 5:30 P.M., while AY996 departs London at 7:35 P.M. and arrives in Helsinki at 12:30 A.M. The new frequency will be flown primarily with Finnair’s new Airbus A321 aircraft, which are equipped with fuel-efficient Sharklet wingtip devices and operate within Heathrow’s strictest noise parameters.

In addition to its own five daily frequencies, Finnair offers two daily codeshare roundtrips operated by fellow oneworld partner British Airways.

The new frequency enables even greater connectivity not just with London and other destinations in the UK and Ireland, but with North America as well, the airline said. Finnair has seen growing demand for North American services via London since entering the joint business on transatlantic traffic with fellow oneworld partners American Airlines, Iberia and British Airways last summer. From Helsinki, London is a convenient transfer point for onward connections on a single ticket to more than a dozen cities in North America.

“London is one of the great global cities and always in demand, and we are very pleased to be able to add more capacity to the thriving Helsinki-London route,” says Gregory Kaldahl, Finnair’s SVP resource management. “This fills out our current scheduling very nicely, improving connectivity to London while adding more flight options for those travelling across the Atlantic as well. The new frequency also enhances the ability of firms to conduct business in London or Helsinki and make return journeys in a single day.”
