German Train Workers May Strike

Reuters and other sources are reporting that following a two-hour work-stoppage this morning, Germany's train drivers union has signaled further strike action to press pay demands.

The GDL union wants pay scales for drivers at six small rail firms brought into line with those at national operator Deutsche Bahn, as well as a higher wage offer from the state-owned national operator.

It said Tuesday's strike, which delayed hundreds of thousands of passengers during rush hour, was called after seven months of negotiations brought no results. It said it would stage further warning strikes in the coming days and begin a strike ballot within two weeks.
