Hayman, a private island resort located in Australia's Great Barrier Reef, reopened this week after an extensive five-month renovation that includes improvements to the key guest accommodations, activity facilities and infrastructure of the resort.
As part of the refurbishment, eight beachside villas were newly constructed, each designed by Amanresorts and villas architect, Kerry Hill, who is continually recognized for his commitment to buildings that exhibit a strong relationship to the physical and cultural context of their site and environment.
Landscape designer and horticulturalist Jamie Durie has been recreating the Hayman garden setting, which was severely impacted by the Tropical Cyclones Anthony and Yasi earlier in the year. Some 33,000 new plants and 327 new plant species have been introduced to the island’s stunning botanical garden.
In keeping with Hayman’s culinary tradition, new restaurant concepts are being introduced in the beachfront: Azure and the new Nic Graham-designed Fontaine restaurant, which presents contemporary Australian cuisine and the best of Australian wines from the Hayman Cellar. The award-winning Chefs’ brigade has also created menus for the Oriental and La Trattoria restaurants.
