Hawaiian Airlines Get New Prime Gates at Maui Airport

Great news for travelers to Hawaii: Maui’s Kahului Airport has opened new boarding gates for Hawaiian Airlines as part of its conversion into a hub.

All of the airline's transpacific and neighbor island flights are now operating from gates 11-21 in the center of the terminal.

The centralized location of Hawaiian’s boarding gates will reportedly let travelers move about more efficiently, whether it is locating flights, making connections to other islands or the mainland U.S., or utilizing airport services. Hawaiian’s boarding gates are closest to the terminal entrance after travelers clear security, and are also close to the airport’s restaurant and gift shops.

Hawaiian sought the added gates and centralized location in creating a Maui hub, following the acquisition of three additional Boeing 717-200 aircraft to its neighbor island fleet earlier this year.

Hawaiian has increased round-trip neighbor islands flights to Maui by 25 percent, including additional nonstop service connecting Maui with Kauai and Hawaii Island. Hawaiian is also increasing its transpacific service to Maui from California this summer. The airline is re-introducing daily nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Maui from June 21 to August 18, while increasing its nonstop service between Maui and the Bay Area by 70 percent for the period of July 1 to August 21, with daily flights out of Oakland and service five days weekly from San José.
