High Adventure in St. Lucia

Zip the Pitons and take to the skies at night on his Caribbean island.

One of the great things about the Caribbean is the depth of offerings of each island. But sometimes your clients may need a little reminder. Take St. Lucia, for example. Yes, it’s a tropical paradise with luxury resorts, perfect for honeymooners and other romantics. But there’s plenty to do that can also attract families and groups looking for a little outdoor excitement—including two high-flying ziplining tours.

Morne Coubaril Estate
Eight zip cables move riders through the Morne Coubaril Estate at the start of the Zip the Pitons tour.

Soufriere Hotwire Rides at the Morne Coubaril Estate aims to combine the adrenaline rush of zipping under the Petit Piton with elevated views of the historical town of Soufriere and the Caribbean Sea.

The hour-long Zip the Pitons tour is perhaps the best choice of offerings by Soufriere Hotwire Rides. This is an add-on to the popular Soufriere excursion.

Upon arrival, your clients are outfitted with a harness, helmet and gloves and briefed on health and safety guidelines. After a training demonstration, guests are led up to the first platform, where they are midway between a panoramic view of the bay and a view of the towering Pitons. Eight zip cables move them through the estate as they take airborne photos of the Pitons and town before being carried into a canopy of tropical forests and across a bamboo-shadowed gorge.

While this is a low-activity tour, it involves moving at a considerable height and at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. This tour is not suitable for pregnant women, people with heart or respiratory conditions and children under eight years old. There is also a weight restriction of 250 pounds.

Advise your clients to wear long shorts or trousers and a top that can be tucked in at the waist. Clothes may get dirty or damaged; skirts or dresses are not advisable. The cost is $69.

Ziplining at Night

Popular Caribbean tour operator Island Routes recently launched a new canopy tour in Babonneau where clients can step up the average ziplining experience a notch by opting for one at night.

The Adrena Luna tour costs $95 per person and takes around three hours. Clients have to be at least 12 years old.

Agents should contact Richard Moss (876-684-8672, info@islandroutes tours.com), Island Routes’ training and development manager, for details.
