How to Celebrate Mother's Day in Hawaii

Mother's Day is coming up next Sunday, and moms throughout the country will be expecting flowers, chocolates, phone calls and trips to Hawaii.

If your clients will be traveling to the Islands with mom over the holiday, here are a few places they can go to celebrate:

On Sunday, May 13 guests of JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina can celebrate Mother’s Day with a special buffet, concert by Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner Willie K and fashion show from Hawaiian designer Mamo Howell. Starting at 11 a.m., mothers can enjoy a champagne lunch buffet, fashion show and entertainment in the Hokulani Ballroom. Tickets can be purchased by calling the hotel’s concierge desk at 808-679-3321. Visit www.ihilani.com for more information.

The Star of Honolulu is also offering a special Mother's Day brunch, only this one will be on the water for a day cruise. Guests can try their hands at Hawaiian cultural activities like lei making and ukulele and hula lessons. Mother's Day festivities include door prizes for moms as well as buffet upgrades of Mother's Day cake. Visit www.starofhonolulu.com/mother-s-day-brunch.html for details

For something a bit more cultural (not every mom likes brunch, after all), consider visiting the Sixth Annual Waikiki Hula Conference over the weekend. Hundreds of hula dancers from around the world will gather at the Hawaii Convention Center for the Sixth Annual Conference from May 11-13. The conference includes 80 workshops and seminars that cover all aspects of hula, from making authentic implements to learning hula from award winning teachers. Visit www.waikikihulaconference.com for more information.

And, of course, plenty of restaurants will offer special perks for moms and their families. Some top picks include Merriman's at Kapalua on Maui, Morton's the Steakhouse in Honolulu, and Pahu i'a at the Four Seasons Hualalai. (Both of Tommy Bahama's restaurants, on both Hawaii Island and Maui, will also offer special meals for the day.)
