Los Cabos hotel developer Eduardo Sanchez-Navarro of Grupo Questro sat down with Travel Agent recently and gave us the skinny on a roughly $1 billion development project that is set to change the way your clients view luxury in Los Cabos.

Located on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, Puerto Los Cabos is a 2,000-acre master-planned development from Grupo Questro, one of Mexico’s most influential real estate development corporations. It is Southern Baja’s newest and most comprehensive resort development and is situated on the shores of the Sea of Cortez.

In addition to having over three miles of private beachfront, Puerto Los Cabos is also home to Mexico’s largest private marina; Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses; and a variety of amenities for owners, such as an activities center, beach club, walking trails, gardens and concierge services.

Puerto Los Cabos is Grupo Ques-tro’s most ambitious project with a total of $200 million invested in basic infrastructure and $1 billion in the construction of hotels, condominiums, commercial zones and other divisions of the development.

Accommodations

AMResorts, provider of sales, marketing and brand management services for Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, and Secrets, Dreams, Now and Sunscape Resorts & Spas, will introduce its second Secrets resort in Los Cabos with the opening of adults-only Secrets Puerto Los Cabos in November 2013.

This new-build resort will join a trio of other AMResorts properties in the destination and will be one of seven hotels located at the Puerto Los Cabos development.

There is also a non-branded 70-room hotel, which Navarro expects to be open by December of 2013. A third hotel in the master plan is a 350-room JW Marriott. Construction on that hotel will begin by the end of this year or by early next year. Plans also call for the five-star Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which aims to have roughly 120-140 rooms, Navarro says. Groundbreaking on that hotel could commence by the first trimester of 2013.

The remaining three hotels are yet to be determined, although Navarro notes that he has been in discussions with such notable brands as Marriott, Park Hyatt and Fairmont.

Marina and Fishing

The Marina at Puerto Los Cabos will be capped by stones of up to 60 tons, the largest privately constructed breakwater in Mexico. It presents a secure environment for 430 vessels ranging from the pangas of the local fishermen to mega-yachts of up to 180 feet. Currently, about 200 slips are already finished. The marina, like most of the unfinished portions of the development, will be completed once the remaining hotels sign on.

Long established as the “Marlin Capital of the World,” the Los Cabos area has incomparable fishing opportunities. In addition, Puerto Los Cabos is only a short distance away from the legendary fishing grounds of Gordo Banks, which gives anglers a one-hour advantage over the boats out of Cabo San Lucas.

Golf Courses

Two spectacular signature 18-hole golf courses, designed by two of the sport’s living legends, are also part of the Puerto Los Cabos landscape. The Greg Norman Signature Course is a private facility for residents and members, while the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is open to public play. Nine holes of each course (18 total) are currently open to play.

Miles of Beaches

Puerto Los Cabos has more than three miles of pristine beachfront, giving residents and guests a variety of recreation choices, such as snorkeling, swimming, parasailing and surfing. For those looking only for blissful relaxation, private beach clubs with infinity pools, restaurants, fire pits and lounging areas provide a world-class experience.

Eco Adventures

A wide variety of activities are available ranging from whale watching to swimming with dolphins. A unique experience awaits clients at Puerto Los Cabos’ 50-acre theme park featuring countless cacti species and other desert plants, while the estero, a true natural heritage site, allows for nature walks and reconnecting with the environment.

Cultural Center

Spread across the development are numerous cultural landmarks. The 20-ton cross sculpture (the symbol of Los Cabos) and other sculptures by internationally known artists embellish the property, while the history and art museums, as well as the traditional town plaza, introduce visitors to the area’s rich heritage.
