Travel Agent magazine’s senior editor Joe Pike was honored with the Best of the Best award at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)’s Caribbean Travel Media Awards on June 3 at the Marriott Marquis.

Titled “How to Sell LGBT Travel to the Caribbean,” Pike’s award winning story explores Caribbean destinations and properties that pursue the $200 billion market and provides tips and trends to those who are considering it. It has its origin in a session organized by the CTO during last year’s State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC) in Curacao.

“The Caribbean Tourism Organization cherishes its relationship with the media – some new and others who have written fascinating stories about the region for many years,” said Sylma Brown, director of CTO USA Inc. “Joe has been among the most prolific since he began covering our region ten years ago and we have been privileged to both contribute to, and observe his growth and development. Of course, we appreciate all the travel media, however, it is particularly gratifying to us when the judges select someone like Joe who we know so well and who is dedicated to sharing the real Caribbean experiences and opportunities with his audience.”

Not to be outdone, Pike’s article also won a second award - Best Feature Article in a Trade Publication.

"We are so delighted that Joe has been recognized for this very important feature,” said Ruthanne Terrero, vice president - content and editorial director for Travel Agent magazine. “The work that went into it displays Joe's strengths: his passion for the Caribbean and his astute research and writing skills that define him as a reporter."
