Kahala Hotel Hosts Mango Throwdown

More good news for foodies in Hawaii: The Kahala Hotel & Resort’s top chef Wayne Hirabayashi will compete with 12 other local celebrity chefs in the third annual Mango Throwdown, an event benefiting the University of Hawaii’s Culinary Institute of the Pacific, Saturday, July 9 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will be hosted by The Moana Surfrider and will feature Top Chef Lee Anne Wong as a celebrity guest judge and emcee.

The Mango Throwdown brings together isle chefs in a friendly competition to create the best mango dishes, from dessert to dinner entrees. Paired with vintage wines and cocktails, the mango creations will be found at chefs' stations distributed throughout the courtyard and Lani Kai, open to hotel guests and residents. The foodie fundraiser will feature wine and spirits as well as live entertainment by some of Hawaii’s top musicians.

Guest celebrity judge Lee Anne Wong will determine the winner in the category of “Overall Best Dish” while all the other attendees help determine the winning chef for the coveted “People’s Choice Award.”
