Kor Hotel Group is buying the five-star Ikal del Mar resort on the Yucatan Peninsula, 10 miles north of Playa Del Carmen. Described as "a sexy, eco-conscious hideaway in the jungle" by Travel + Leisure magazine, Ikal del Mar sits on six acres of Caribbean waterfront property. Suites are more than 650 square feet each, and equipped with plunge pools and secluded private terraces. In addition to 30 private palapas, the property has a full-service spa and activities ranging from scuba diving to horseback riding. A spa features a beachfront yoga studio, Mayan Temazcal steam treatment cave and a retail boutique selling indigenous crafts and products. In 2008, Kor will debut two ground-up properties in the Mayan Riviera: Viceroy Riviera Maya in the Mayakoba resort complex and The Tides Playa del Carmen Resorts and Residences.
