On Location: AMResorts Looking to Expand its Secrets Brand to Hawaii

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- As part of our ongoing coverage of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association's (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace, Travel Agent sat in on an AMResorts press conference and learned that the all-inclusive chain is pursuing an expansion to Hawaii.

Gonzalo del Peon, president of AMResorts, confirmed Thursday the rumors Travel Agent had been hearing for quite some time of a possible AMResorts expansion to the Aloha State.

"Hawaii is definitely a location we have been pursuing," Peon told Travel Agent. "We would really like to bring our all-inclusive product there, but I would't say it is a top priority at this point."

Peon did note, however, that if AMResorts does expand to Hawaii, it would be in the form of the company's adults-only Secrets brand.

Travel Agent reported back in 2008 that the company was eyeing expansions to both Costa Rica and Hawaii. The company's first ever Costa Rica property was just announced this year. Could Hawaii be next?
