What seems to be a common theme lately is all the major Caribbean hotel brands that are either considering or have already planned expansions into Latin America.

To name a few, the Grace Bay Club, SuperClubs and Ritz-Carlton have all expressed interest in Latin America. Ritz-Carlton, which more of a worldwide brand than the Caribbean of course, is looking to expand to Colombia while Grace Bay club has its eyes on Costa Rica, Argentina or Brazil and SuperClubs will soon be opening its first Panama property in the form of Breezes Panama.

At a Ritz-Carlton Hotels, Caribbean & Mexico lunch at the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) Marketplace in St. Lucia, Travel Agent learned that the company has its sights set on Cartagena, Colombia.

Travel Agent has been expecting a big name, luxury resort to set up shop in Cartagena ever since we visited there about two years ago and it appears to be happening. Ezzat Coutry, senior vice president of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, told Travel Agent the company is looking to build a hotel in the destination but that plans are “in the very early stages.”
