2011 was the year of the adventurous traveler. According to News Republic, Nepal had its best year ever for tourism in 2011.
The Nepal Tourism Board is reporting that 719,547 visitors came to Nepal in 2011, the majority coming from India and China. Tourism accounted for 7 percent of the GDP, as well.
Nepal used to be a popular destination for tourists, but experienced severe fall-off after a 10-year civil war. It seems, though, that it is on the road to recovery.
