Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid abruptly nixed a proposal to build a magnetic levitating train between Disneyland and Las Vegas. Instead of the original futuristic train, called maglev, Reid has decided to back a competing, cheaper rail project, says Reid spokesman Jon Summers. The diesel-electric DesertXpress train would connect Victorville, CA to the Las Vegas Strip.
Reid has been a long-time advocate of a high-speed rail along the I-15 corridor between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Summers continued that the senator's decision came after an in-depth review of the two plans. Reid's decision was based on "which one is going to be done and which one is going to be done faster," Summers said.
