The Charles Hotel—Munich, Germany
Rocco Forte has opened the Charles Hotel (www.charleshotel.de/home), a new-build property set in the city's Botanical Gardens. It's also within walking distance to Maximilianstrasse and the center of the city. With 160 large, bright guest rooms, the hotel boasts a Presidential Suite that can be combined with another three suites to create an entire private floor covering 4,900 square feet. Astarte Suites—Santorini, Greece
Family-run, the nine-suite Astarte Suites (www.astartesuites.gr) is on a less-developed area of Santorini, in a location that affords it fabulous views of volcanoes and calderas. The intimate Mystique (www.mystique.gr), a member of Starwood's Luxury Collection, has just 18 rooms carved into a cliff on the edge of Santorini's town of Oia. Capella Castlemartyr—Cork, Ireland
Home-Based Travel Agent checked into Capella Castlemartyr (www.capellacastlemartyr.com) just one day after it started accepting guests, and for the most part found it hard to believe it was newly opened. The formal entrance, dining rooms, bar and largest suites are in the 250-year-old manor house built by the Earl of Shannon near Cork. A fountain is the centerpiece of the formal box hedge gardens, edged by lawns that transition to golf greens. To one side of the manor are the ruins of the castle built in 1210. JK Place, Capri—Capri, Italy
JK Place, Capri (www.jkcapri.com) opened on the Amalfi Coast on the former site of the Hotel Continental. The Hotel Marqués de Riscal— Elciego, Spain
The Hotel Marqués de Riscal (www.starwood.com), a member of Starwood's Luxury Collection, sits in the heart of the Rioja wine region. The already-iconic hotel was designed by Frank O. Gehry, who also designed Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum.

Solís Cambrian Hotel & Spa—Adelboden, Switzerland
Solís Cambrian Hotel & Spa (www.solisadelboden.com), which is in the Swiss Alps, has just opened. The ski resort was relaunched two months ago, following a complete refurbishment that repositioned it as a luxury hotel and as one of the newest properties carrying the new Solis brand, which is the brainchild of Horst Schulze, the former CEO of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.
We hear the rooms on the fifth floor, many of them duplexes, are fantastic and full of character because they are under the eaves. Room 501 is a suite with a balcony on which to sit and enjoy a glass of champagne while watching the sun set on the stunning snow-capped mountains.
