New Hotel to Rise in London's Scotland Yard

More hotels are opening in London: EPR Architects has obtained planning permission to turn 3 – 5 Great Scotland Yard into a 234-bedroom boutique hotel.

The development is situated in the Trafalgar Square Conservation Area and uses a former Ministry of Defence building that was the Central London Recruiting Depot, built in 1910.

The proposal keeps the principal facades to Great Scotland Yard and Craig’s Court and includes extensions at roof and basement level. A new roof will be created over the whole building to act as a singular unifying element on a similar scale to the surrounding buildings.

The location of the building is ideal for use as a hotel due to the proximity of local tourist sites and provides a sustainable and conservation minded solution to the site and a positive contribution to the Conservation Area and the communities of Westminster.

The hotel will be operated by the New York based Morgans Hotel Group’s under their Hudson brand, and is their fourth property in London along with the Mondrian London at Sea Containers House, also designed by EPR Architects, and due to open in early 2014.
