Arusha, often known as the safari capital of Tanzania, is also the East African country’s main gemstone trading center. Therefore, it is fitting that a new museum has opened that is dedicated to Tanzanite, a gemstone with purple to blue coloring that is found near the city. The Tanzanite Experience, which opened in Arusha in August, uses interactive media to present the story of the gemstone— from extraction to processing, cutting and polishing.
The Tanzanite Experience is supported by TanzaniteOne Mining, a miner and supplier of rough Tanzanite; and the Tanzanite Foundation, a non-profit, industry-supported organization that promotes Tanzanite and invests in projects in the indigenous Tanzanite mining communities in the Simanjiro District in Tanzania.
