CostaBaja Resort & Spa is now taking reservations and is set to open on November 13. CostaBaja Resort & Spa will be the centerpiece of the 220-acre Costa Baja development and will be the first 5-star resort in La Paz, Mexico.
In addition to the new hotel, Costa Baja will also be opening a new Gary Player-designed golf course on November 7. CostaBaja Resort & Spa is just 10 minutes north from downtown La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. The resort is set on the Sea of Cortez overlooking a 250-slip double-basin marina and white sand beaches. Rates start at $149 and reservations for the new hotel can be made at www.costabajaresort.com.
But although the resort could present a great selling point for Mexico specialists, some agents, like Marianne Braly of Now Voyager Travel in Huntington Beach, CA, are always a little skeptic about whether a hotel in Mexico will open on time.
“How much of the resort will be really finished by opening day? Unfortunately in Mexico things are very rarely done on time and finished completely when they are supposed to be,” Braly told Travel Agent. “I'd hate to send my clients to a construction site. I would have to see the property for myself before I could sell it.”
If it does in fact open at the scheduled date, the 115-room property will aim to bring a five-star luxury resort experience to La Paz. Rooms will offer a selection of ocean, mountain, golf course and marina views.
In-room features include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, glass enclosed showers, and dark mahogany wood finishes to contrast the bright surroundings. Twenty-four-hour room service will also be available.
CostaBaja Resort & Spa will also be home to the first spa in La Paz, two signature restaurants, two pools, a beach club, and an 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player. The property will also include a 2477-square-foot ballroom for corporate retreats and other group functions. This facility can also be divided into three different spaces for smaller functions.
