Cancun is abuzz with travel news recently, and with the launch of Island Routes’ official expansion in the destination, we've rounded up the latest travel options in the area to recommend to clients.

Island Routes’ Expansion to Mexico Now Officially Underway

Earlier this year, Travel Agent’s Joe Pike reported from the Caribbean Hotel Association's (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace event in Nassau, Paradise Islands, The Bahamas. During the event, it was said that the popular tour operator, Island Routes Caribbean Adventures, was planning to expand its operations to Cancun and St. Kitts, according to David Shields, general manager.

Island Routes Caribbean Adventures has now officially announced its expansion to Cancun, Mexico.

Pike reported that Cancun is an especially interesting place for the operator to expand because Island Routes is owned by Sandals Resorts International CEO Adam Stewart. He also noted that Stewart previously told Travel Agent that Sandals would be expanding to the Riviera Maya, Mexico, with groundbreaking expected to begin by the end of the year.

The new agreement was reached with Dolphin Discovery in Cancun and will see Island Routes offer six new tours, including a Dolphin Encounter and Dolphin Royal Swim VIP tour, as well as other interactions with manatees and sea lions during Sea Life Discovery Plus.

Pike reports several other new tours include a zipline adventure nearly 100 feet above sea level, taking guests past cliffs and above the sea as part of the Cancun Reef Park tour, offering views of Cancun’s scenery and Isla Mujeres.
