Onsite: Almond Beach Village to Expand Spa, Upgrade Annual Super Bowl Party

BARBADOS--During Almond Beach Village's annual Super Bowl extravaganza, known as Big Game Week, Travel Agent sat down with Chris Forbes, the Barbados resort's general manager, and learned that plans are in place to add about six treatments rooms to the resort's spa. The spa expansion, said Forbes, is part of an "aggressive" move to attract more North American guests to the resort, which currently has mostly European guests.

Almond Beach now has only one treatment room. It will develop the new rooms on space that's been occupied by two squash courts, which have been underused. A specific time frame for construction has not yet been set, Forbes said.

Forbes also told Travel Agent that preliminary plans are in place to make Almond Beach Village's Super Bowl party more luxurious for 2009. This includes adding bigger projection screens so guests can view the game from docked yachts. At this year's party, the resort rolled out a projection screen onto the beach, where guests watched the game from more than 50 tables set up alongside the ocean. The plan calls for doubling the size of the main screen and arranging for several yachts to be docked nearby. Visit www.almondresorts.com/resorts/almondvillage. (JP)
