Paul Toner to Manager JW Marriott Ihilani on Oahu

Marriott International has announced the appointment of Paul Toner as general manager of the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko'Olina on Oahu. Toner assumed his new post January 14, succeeding Dan Banchiu who is retiring after 32 years with the company.

Most recently Toner was senior vice president and chief operating officer of RockResorts and Vail Resorts Hospitality, which he joined in 2008 following many years as a senior executive with Marriott International in the Hawaiian Islands.

At the 387-room JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, Toner will oversee and direct all aspects of the day-to-day management and operations of the AAA Four-Diamond resort hotel.

Toner began his tenure in Hawaii in 1989 in the sales discipline at the Maui Marriott Resort at Kaanapali. In 1994, he moved to Kauai where he became area director of marketing at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club. In 1998, he was promoted area director of marketing for Marriott based in Hong Kong overseeing Central Asia and Hawaii. Due to the growth of Marriott in the Hawaiian Islands he opened up Marriott’s Pacific Islands Regional Office in Honolulu. In 2007, Toner moved again to Hong Kong as vice president of sales and marketing for Marriott International’s Asia Pacific Region, which included Hawaii. He also spent two years, from 1992-1994, serving as director of sales and marketing for the Hyatt Regency Kauai and the Hyatt Regency Maui.

Toner joined Marriott in 1985 as a sales manager at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C.  He has also held a variety of sales and marketing positions at the Boston Long Wharf Marriott, and the Orlando World Center Marriott in Florida.
