Qantas Launches Direct Flights From Sydney to Whitsunday Islands

Australian flag-carrier Qantas has launched direct services between Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef Airport, broadening travel options for travelers heading to the Whitsunday islands.

Qantas will operate three flights per week (on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday) during peak season (July and September through to January) and bi-weekly services on Wednesday and Sunday off-peak.

Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi said that the flights were in response to customer demand and would complement partner airline Jetstar’s existing flights as part of a two-brand strategy.

Qantas will be the only domestic airline operating out of the Great Barrier Reef Airport to include an inflight meal and checked baggage for all passengers.

Year round fares begin at $189 one way. For more information visit qantas.com.
