Report: Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Coming to Atlantic City

beachIn a joint press conference Jimmy Buffett and NJ Gov. Chris Christie announced plans for a new Margaritaville Resort in Atlantic City, the New Jersey Star Ledger reports.

The estimated $35 million project will occupy part of the existing Resorts Casino Hotel, which will re-do its building façade in a Margaritaville theme. The project will also include a year-round beach bar, the Landshark Bar and Grill, the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar, shops and a coffee shop. Part of the old Steeplechase Pier will also be incorporated into the complex.

“It certainly does not go without being noticed by me and a lot of people who work for me that the Jersey Shore has the largest flock of parrotheads,” Buffett said at the conference. “So in helping bring back a great beach town, we’re also giving a flock of migrant birds a nest to come to.”

Funding and approvals will be voted on in August. Organizers expect to need about $17 million in public funding for the project.
