Report: Thompson Hotels to Enter Resort Market With Cabo San Lucas Property

Forbes is reporting that Thompson Hotels recently announced the opening of the brand’s first-ever resort location in Cabo San Lucas will take place in 2014.

The new hotel is part of an international expansion for the design-driven hotel group—Thompson opened its Belgraves hotel in London in February and also has plans to debut properties in Europe and Asia.

According to Forbes, after merging with San Francisco-based Joie de Vivre Hotels last fall, the upscale hotel group is looking to attract leisure travelers, since most guests at the brand’s current outposts check in for business, says Stephen Brandman, Thompson Hotels co-founder and CEO of parent company Commune Hotels & Resorts.

Thompson Cabo San Lucas is a new build for the brand, and though this is Thompson’s first try at a resort property, its sister company Joie de Vivre continues to add vacation-focused hotels to its portfolio—including the rainbow-vibrant Saguaro hotels in Scottsdale and Palm Springs, and another still-unsigned resort in Hawaii, according to Brandman.
