Savannah’s Wedding Cake Mansion
A bedroom in Luxury Living Savannah’s Wedding Cake Mansion exudes Southern charm and comfort.

This city of Southern charms is a getaway from the everyday.

When the ladies come in to plan their big weekend getaway, surprise them by suggesting a city steeped in history, Southern culture and Scarlett O’Hara—the beloved heroine of Gone With the Wind. Savannah, GA, is sure to knock the high heels off your favorite female travelers.

This is picturesque old Southern living at its best, from its porches to oak-lined streets and historical mansions and gardens. There is a variety of ways to tour its historical streets, whether by trolley, bike, scooter or on foot. And the ladies will love checking out the sites that made backdrops for famous films like Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Forrest Gump and Something to Talk About.

Culinary options abound. Point your clients in the direction of The Lady and Sons Restaurant and celebrity chef Paula Deen’s Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House. If your clients are shopaholics, we suggest arranging a shopping tour down River Street, a cobblestone road that borders the Savannah River and houses some of the city’s more upscale boutiques and restaurants.

If it’s festivals your clients are after, Savannah packs its calendar with 200 yearly events—from music, film and books to home design, architecture and landscapes.

Where to Stay

Southern belles won’t settle for anything less than opulent, and we suggest your vacationing vixens do the same. Opt for Luxury Living Savannah, a collection of five classically restored historical homes in the heart of Savannah. These homes combine bold, rich colors and historical touches with modern amenities such as gourmet kitchens, bathrooms with whirlpool tubs and flat-screen TVs. Optional premium services are also available, such as airport pickup, private chef, a pre-stocked fridge, in-house massage and maid service.

The Wedding Cake Mansion is just what you’d expect from a classic Savannah home (think white bay windows with stained glass and ornamental ironwork). Built in 1869, this home on Monterey Square comprises a main house with five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a formal living and dining room, a gourmet kitchen, and a courtyard with a fountain. There is also a garden suite and a one-bedroom, one-bathroom carriage house. Film fodder: The Wedding Cake Mansion was featured in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

The Forsyth Park Mansion is ideal for guests who want to revel in Savannah’s famed gardens. This four-bedroom home is complete with five bathrooms, formal living and dining room, gourmet kitchen, side porches and a garden that has been deemed one of Savannah’s largest. Besides the main house, there is a two-bedroom garden suite and a two-bedroom carriage house. The home can host up to 20 guests.

If your clients fancy 18th-century style, the Washington Square House circa 1790 is the best. This renovated four-bedroom home is just two blocks from River Street and has retained key historical elements, such as the original staircase, heart pine floors and plaster ceiling medallions. The home has four bathrooms, a living and dining room, gourmet kitchen, sunroom and courtyard. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom carriage house also sits on the property.

The most spacious of the Luxury Living homes are the Jones Street Suites, a collection of five renovated suites done up in 1860s Victorian grandeur. Each suite has a modern kitchen, baths, side porches and a courtyard. These one-, two- and three-bedroom suites can be rented separately, or all together, to host up to 22 guests.

Directly across from The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, one of Savannah’s landmarks, sits The Cathedral Inn. The Inn has three suites, each with spacious living areas, flat-screen TVs, fireplaces and views of the cathedral. One- and two-bedroom suites can be rented individually, or clients can take over entire Inn. The whole property can accommodate up to 14 guests.
