Southwest Airlines Launches New Flight to Puerto Rico

SouthwestSouthwest unprecedentedly launches flights to five new cities in one day, including the carrier’s first overseas destination, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The four other newly opening destinations are Charlotte, N.C.; Rochester, N.Y.; Flint, MI and Portland, ME. The expansion is a result of the company's continued integration of the recently purchased subsidiary, AirTran Airways. Service will be available starting Sunday, April 14.

"This milestone is historic as it marks Southwest's first venture outside the 48 contiguous states, and it's proof positive that our ongoing integration of AirTran remains on-track as we're making tremendous progress," said Southwest's Executive Vice President, Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer Ron Ricks.

To celebrate the new San Juan service, Southwest announced a one-day offer of $39 one-way between San Juan and Orlando or Tampa Bay.  To take advantage of the rate, bookings must be completed by 11:59 p.m. PT on April 15th, 2013, for travel on select days, via southwest.com and swabiz.com.
