Starwood to Add Two New Caribbean Destinations

Travel Agent sat down with Jim Curtis, area director of sales and marketing for Westin Hotels & Resorts, Thursday and learned that Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans on announcing two new Caribbean resorts within the next 60 days.

Travel Agent was unable to get details on where the new properties would be located, but we were told that the islands would be places where there is currently no Starwood presence. Curtis, although he wouldn’t confirm, did not rule out St. Lucia as a possible destination when Travel Agent asked.

“There’s a lot to like about St. Lucia,” Curtis told us. “It’s a great destination and definitely a place where we could eventually see having a Starwood property.”

And it appears this is just the tip of the iceberg. Expect a ton more Starwood announcements in the Caribbean within the next five years as Curtis told us the company plans on doubling its Caribbean presence by 2015. There are currently eight Starwood properties in the region.
