Starwood Vacation Ownership, a division of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, announced plans to expand its portfolio of resorts in Hawaii with the development of its third vacation ownership resort on Maui.

The new beachfront property is scheduled to open fall 2011. It will be located in Kaanapali North Beach, overlooking the Pacific Ocean with views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai. The new property will have 390 luxury villas, including a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. It will also be convenient to shopping and dining in Lahaina.

Of note is the fact that the resort has been designed to achieve certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, the nationally accepted benchmark for green buildings.

The new Kaanapali North Beach resort will bring Starwood’s total number of vacation ownership properties in Hawaii to four.
