The Asia Society is hosting a luncheon today that will include the first policy speech in New York by the newly appointed Thai Foreign Minister, H.E. Kasit Piromya. The focus of his discussion will be the impact of the financial crisis on a more globally integrated ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region. ASEAN—whose export-dependent 10 member states are home to more than 500 million people with a combined gross domestic product of $600 billion—is relevant to resolving the deepening global financial crisis and addressing many of the major trans-national problems.
